We are happy to unveil the newlook labels for Averill Creek Vineyard. These labels build on the existing brand attributes and all share the same illustration of Mt. Prevost as viewed from Cowichan Bay. The new labels are a clean and sophisticated design, which creates a strong brand presence when blocked together on the shelf. Keep your eyes peeled for the Reserves – they’re not just easy on the eyes but on the palate too.

Foch eh

Say what? That’s right 100% Canadian Marechal Foch made by carbonic maceration and produced on Vancouver Island. Taking a little humorous liberty with the naming of the newest addition to the Averill Creek family, we thought we would approach this new wine label with a clean, elegant look. The strong typography creates the brand while the label itself has a diecut in the shape of the Mt. Prevost silhouette which is present on all of the Averill Creek packaging. The die cut really stands out with the dark black of the full bottle showing through. So what do you say? Foch Eh!

What does it really mean to be an islander? What makes people who live on the island different from the mainland and big cities in Canada? These are some of the key points that were approached for the rebranding of Vancouver Island Breweries Islander Lager. The objective was to create a unique beer packaging platform that would speak to its target audience and stand for what being an islander is all about…and what it’s not. With the incorporation of the Islander Creed which is located on the lower portion of all of the packaging we were able to create various messages that sum up the brand essence. Each package size has it’s own Islander Creed to keep the messaging unique and varied across the different mediums. The creed is paired with a smooth wave graphic to reinforce the water and natural environment, along with a refreshing blue brand colour to create a striking design. So what are you waiting for? Get outside and have a cold one.

A beautiful estate grown and produced winery located on the sloping hills of Mt. Prevost on Vancouver Island. The owners desired that the mountain be a prominent feature in the design. The illustrated image is the view of Mt. Prevost from Cowichan Bay at dusk. This portrays the beautiful scenery that surrounds the winery and the energy it embodies. Each label is colour coded with the sunset and ocean reflecting the label base colour. Silver foil is used in the logo to add a premium feel. Silver Stelvin caps are printed with the mountain silhouette and Averill Creek name. Due to the nature of the design these labels are printed on a digital press to ensure smooth gradients and consistent colour. I created all brand identity, wine labels, advertising and POS materials.

The challenge was to breathe new life into a beer brand that had been consistently losing momentum over the past 5 years. I took the “Craft Brewed In BC” theme and reflected the environment and lifestyle of BC through the packaging and individual names. All the brands reflect a natural element that beautiful BC has to offer; as well as, the lifetstyle and laid back attitude that comes with it. Each brand is colour coded with the colour reflecting the brands feel. Names like Coastal Cream Ale, 420 Brilliant Lager and Easy Honey Pale Ale create a nice craft brewed in BC image for this West Coast Brewer.

These outdoor billboards and TSA’s were created for Sleeman Breweries in 2007. The goal was to garner the attention of the consumer in a simple yet playful manner while also creating a thirst for the product and brand recognition.
Focusing on a large product shot I designed the tagline in the ads to look as though it was being read through the clear beer bottle. This helped create a playful element between the visual ads and the viewer. All sweat and condensation has been brushed in over the warped text to finish the realistic effect.

Rainier Identity and Packaging

The objective was to reposition Rainier thru it’s packaging as the “old classic”. Current packaging had gone after the “Kokannee/Blue/Mtn” feel and wasn’t winning in the mainstream battle. By redesigning the identity to look similar to early 1980′s designs I created an icon that was easily recognizable while bringing the look up to date. A simple retro can design reenforced the 1980′s look while also aligning the brand more closely to the USA design to help cross border consumers.

A new identity, rack card and stationery package for a small Lake Cowichan based Bed & Breakfast. The creative is based on the nautical theme the B&B is decorated in. A calm, casually listing boat is backed with a “watercolour” sky background. The logo is designed as 2 colour to help keep printing costs down.
