Rainier Identity and Packaging

The objective was to reposition Rainier thru it’s packaging as the classic brewer. Current packaging had gone after the “Kokanee/Labatt Blue/Mountain” feel and wasn’t winning in the mainstream battle. By redesigning the identity to look similar to early 1980’s designs I created an icon that was easily recognizable while bringing the look up to date. A clean, simple, retro can design reinforced the classic look while also aligning the brand more closely to the packaging in the USA. The retro look also helps to differentiate the brand from it’s competitors on the shelf.

Pabst Blue Ribbon Packaging

PBR is a classic American beer that has a strong following in specific circles here in Canada. Design for this packaging was based on the existing cans’ design elements. Photography of the can was taken which I then pieced together with ice and other brand elements. The end design is a bold product centric design, on an eye catching dark blue base colour.

Rainbeers

Working with illustrator Shayne Letain (www.shayneletain.com) we created this humorous and nostalgic image…again a throwback to the early 80’s advertising which highlighted Rainbeers running across mountains, migrating across lakes, swimming up river etc. This image was used for print advertising and POS. Individual Rainbeers were created so that they could be used as floor decals, running around the store, leading the consumer to the Rainer beer door….Sneaky little devils.
